The Rev. Elias J. JENKINS, 1108 W. Main Street, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anna Swaim at Tangier, Ind yesterday at noon. Mr. Jenkins was 70 and had been a minister in the United Brethren Church but was forced to give up his work last August because of poor health. On Sunday, March 11, Mr. Jenkins went to Rockville to preach and when he returned home he complained of not feeling well on Monday and went to Tangier to visit his daughter. While there he developed a bad case of the grip and because of his ill health and advanced age was unable to fight the disease and this with an attack of heart trouble caused his death. The Rev. Mr. Jenkins was born in PA but came to this state in 1880. He first settled in Brazil but later preached in many towns through the northern part of the state. He had preached in the upper Wabash circuit about 30 years and at the time of his retirement last summer was one of the oldest United Brethren ministers in the circuit. Mr. Jenkins had been in the Crawfordsville circuit since 1900 but came to this city only about 6 years ago. For the last 2 or 3 years he has been in very poor health because of his advanced age but he continued his work as long as he was able. Because of his long service in the church he is one of the best known ministers in this part of the state and his death will be sad news to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Those surviving are his wife and 8 children: Mrs. Anna Swaim of Tangier, Ind; Oliver Jenkins of Milwaukee, Wi; Mrs. Laura Malm of Minneapolis, Mn; George Jenkins of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Evelyn Kennedy at Center point ; Miss Amy Jenkins of Tangier, Ind; Miss Alice Jenkins of Rob Roy Ind and Walter of Joliet, Ill. - kbz

The body of the Rev. EJ Jenkins who died at the home of his daughter in Tangier Sunday at noon was brought back to this city yesterday and will lie in state at the home of the deceased 1108 W. Main Street until Thursday noon. The funeral will be from the United Brethern church Thursday at 2.

The Rev. EJ JENKINS was laid to rest yesterday afternoon after an impressive funeral service conducted at the UB Church of which he was a member. (more details on funeral) Rev. Elias John Jenkins was born in England Dec 25, 1847 and died March 26, 1916. His parents came to the state of PA when he was but 18 months old. He grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Lloyd Nov 18, 1873 in this same community. To this union was born 8 children, all surviving with their mother, 4 brothers and 1 sister also survive. Children are: Mrs. Anna Swaim of Tangier; Oliver of Milwaukee; Mrs. Laura Marlin of Minneapolis; Mrs. Evelyn Kennedy of Center Point; Miss Amy of Tangier, Miss Alice of Rob Roy both teachers, Walter of Joliet Ill and George of Crawfordsville.
